\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200bMSN, UK<\/strong>Marine Shipping Notice<\/a><\/p>\n

There are three different types of Marine Shipping Notice; – Merchant Shipping Notice (MSN)<\/strong>,\u00a0– Marine Guidance Notice (MGN)<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0– Marine Information Notice (MIN)<\/strong>.\u00a0These Notices publicise to the shipping and fishing industries important safety, pollution prevention and other relevant information.\u00a0Merchant Shipping Notices are used to convey mandatory information that must be complied with under UK legislation. These MSNs relate to Statutory Instruments and contain the technical detail of such regulations.\u00a0Marine Guidance Notices give significant advice and guidance relating to the improvement of the safety of shipping and of life at sea, and to prevent or minimise pollution from shipping.\u00a0Marine Information Notices are intended for a more limited audience e.g. training establishments or equipment manufacturers, or contain information which will only be of use for a short period of time, such as timetables for MCA examinations. MINs are numbered in sequence and have a cancellation date (which will typically be no more than twelve months after publication).\u00a0Within each series of Marine Notices suffixes are used to indicate whether documents relate to merchant ships or fishing vessels, or to both. The suffixes following the number are:(M) for merchant ships (F) for fishing vessels(M+F) for both merchant ships and fishing vessels<\/h1>\n

MAIB\u200b<\/a>, UK<\/strong>Maritime Accident Investigation Branch<\/a><\/p>\n

The MAIB investigates marine accidents involving UK vessels worldwide and all vessels in UK territorial waters.<\/h1>\n

MET Office Marine, UK<\/strong>Marine shipping forecast and gale warning<\/a><\/p>\n

Shipping forecast and gale warnings, inshore waters forecast and strong wind warnings, high seas forecast and storm warnings.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Met Office provides a wide range of marine forecasts and warnings.<\/span><\/h2>\n

In the UK, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is responsible for the provision of Maritime Safety Information (MSI) to ships at sea, which includes the broadcast of warnings and forecasts. This includes Navigation Warnings.<\/p>\n

The Met Office initiates warnings and prepares routine forecasts for dissemination on behalf of the MCA.<\/p>\n
